WNBA Files Trademark Applications for “WUBBLE”

The Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) has filed two new trademark applications for “WUBBLE.” This is presumably the league’s interpretation of “the bubble,” in which the NBA is currently playing.

These filings were made with the USPTO on August 5, 2020. The first application covers goods and services that would normally be seen when protecting the name or slogan of a professional sports league, namely “live basketball games and basketball exhibitions.” The second application indicates that the WNBA intends to offer a brand of WUBBLE clothing.

In order for these applications to receive registration, the WNBA will be required to show proof that they are selling the goods and services included in the filings, so it is likely that the WNBA will start offering “wubble” merchandise in the near future.
