Philonise Floyd Files Trademark Application for “The George Floyd Foundation”

Philonise Floyd, the brother of George Floyd, has filed a trademark application for “THE GEORGE FLOYD FOUNDATION.” It appears that Philonise is planning to set-up a foundation in his brother’s name to advocate for police reform and social justice initiatives.

The trademark was just filed with the USPTO on June 12 for a variety of goods and services. The application includes documentaries about George Floyd, face masks, clothing, charitable fundraising services, and arranging and conducting seminars in the field of social justice, human rights, and police reform.

The application was filed on a 1(b) basis, meaning that Philonise has a bona fide intent to use the trademark in commerce. He was also required to provide a sworn declaration stating that he intends to use the trademark in association with the goods and services he listed.

If the trademark application is ultimately approved by the USPTO, Philonise will need to then show that he is actually using the trademark ‘THE GEORGE FLOYD FOUNDATION’ on all these goods and services in commerce prior to finalizing the trademark registration.
