Our Virginia continuing legal education courses focus on intellectual property law, more specifically trademarks. While you may not realize it, intellectual property can be found in every industry, as each business has at least one protectable trademark – their name. Our courses provide basic, but important information surrounding trademark law, allowing you to speak knowledgeably on the topic and perhaps provide added value to your clients.
Attorneys licensed by the State Bar of Virginia are required to complete 12 MCLE credit hours every year. Two credit hours must be dedicated to Ethics & Professionalism.
Four credit hours must be completed through live activities.
Attorneys in Virginia can acquire their Virginia MCLE credits by attending continuing legal education courses that have been approved and accredited by the State Bar of Virginia MCLE Department. Courses can be taken in a variety of formats, from live classes or webinars to previously recorded audio or video content.
Virginia attorneys are required to complete a minimum of four CLE credit hours in a live interactive format. This can be a traditional live “classroom” CLE program or one that is delivered online, as long as attendees can interact with the presenter in real time.
Attorneys licensed in Virginia must complete and their 12 MCLE requirements by October 31 of each year. The Virginia CLE reporting period runs from November 1 through October 31 of each year and all MCLE credits must be reported by December 15 of each year.
Yes, in Virginia, attorneys can roll over a maximum of eight CLE credit hours each year. Carryover credits cannot be used for live credits in the following year.
VA attorneys are required to report their own MCLE attendance. Attorneys can report their MCLE attendance electronically at any time on the Virginia State Bar’s website, by logging in to their account using their Virginia bar number and password.
