Kendrick Lamar is a rapper, songwriter, and producer who has released five studio albums and headlined five major tours, as well as winning 14 Grammy awards. He is also the recipient of the California State Senate’s Generational Icon Award and has been presented with the key to the city of Compton. He has been awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Music, six Billboard Music Awards, named to Time 100, a list of the most influential people, awarded seven BET Awards, and 19 BET Hip Hop Awards.
On June 17, 1987, Kendrick Lamar Duckworth was born in Compton, California. He went to McNair Elementary and Vanguard Learning Center and had perfect grades at Centennial High School in Compton, where he graduated.
He introduced his first mixtape Youngest Head Nigga in Charge when he was only 16 years old. It was enough to get him signed to Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE). Lamar released another mixtape, just two years after that titled, Training Day. C4, his fourth mixtape and was released in 2009, around the same time that he joined the group, Black Hippy. His next mixtape was called Overly Dedicated and went to number 72 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. In early 2011, he released “HiiiPoWeR” the lead single from his next album, Section.80.
“The Recipe” was his official debut single and the lead track from his first studio album Good Kid, M.A.A.D City, which was distributed by Aftermath, Top Dawg, and Interscope. The album sold almost a quarter of a million copies in the first week and included the singles “Swimming Pools (Drank),” “Backseat Freestyle,” and “Poetic Justice.” The album earned four Grammy nominations. In 2013, Lamar supported the album with the Good Kid, M.A.A.D City World Tour.
In 2015, Lamar released his third studio album, To Pimp a Butterfly. The album, which had the singles “I,” “The Blacker the Berry,” “King Kunta,” “Alright,” and “These Walls,” went to number one in the United States and the UK and was eventually certified platinum. The music from this album supported the Kunta Groove Sessions Tour in 2015.
Lamar released Damn in 2017. His fourth studio album had the singles “Humble,” “Loyalty,” and “Love.” “Humble” went to number one on the charts with “Loyalty” reaching 14 and “Love,” which was considered a contemporary hit, reaching number 11.
In 2022, he released Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers. Top singles off this album include “I-95” and “Silent Hill.” The album is widely considered to be a financial and critical success.
Lamar also recorded the soundtrack for the movie Black Panther and helped to produce an untitled film for Paramount Pictures. He also appeared in an episode of the television hit “Power.”
In 2022, Kendrick Lamar Duckworth filed a trademark application for “KENDRICK LAMAR” for printed materials, posters, clothing, footwear, headwear, and online non-downloadable audiovisual recordings of music. Additionally, he applied for a trademark for “OKLAMA” for similar purposes as well as entertainment services such as live musical performances and social media and website services.
Kendrick Lamar helped to found a media company with his manager called p.g. LANG, LLC. The company is an umbrella company for a production house with publishing services and a record label. In 2020, p.g. LANG, LLC. applied for a trademark for PGLANG” and for “a logo shaped like a block featuring the letters “PGLANG” for various types of downloadable and non-downloadable musical recordings, for paper-based products and services including posters, temporary tattoo transfers, postcards, napkins, and many other similar items, for a selection of clothing items that include sleepwear, jogging suits, jerseys, and other similar items, for personal and professional management services, for streaming services, and for television, radio and online production and other similar items.
In 2020, p.g. LANG, LLC. applied for a trademark for a logo featuring the image of two children and the letter “a” for a vast array of paper-based products and services including posters, temporary tattoo transfers, postcards, napkins, and many other similar items, as well as for a selection of clothing items that include sleep wear, jogging suits, jerseys, and other similar items.
Kendrick Lamar also founded the company by DE PROGRAM, LLC. In 2019, by DE PROGRAM, LLC applied for a trademark for “BY DE PROGRAM” for streaming music, for downloadable musical recordings and production, distribution, and presentation of television and radio programs and items associated with that, and for clothing like tops, bottoms, socks, and the like.
