Kelly Rowland is a singer, actress, and businesswoman. She was a member of the pop group Destiny’s Child.
Kelendria Trene Rowland was born in Atlanta, Georgia but raised in Houston Texas. Her introduction to the world of music entertainment came as a child performing with various girl groups that included Beyonce Knowles. She appeared with one of these groups on an episode of the television talent search show, Star Search, but they did not win. After several incarnations, this girl group would go on to become Destiny’s Child. The group is one of the best-selling musical groups of all time and the most well-known girl group in history.
As a member of the girl group, Rowland released some of her earliest music. The group stayed together until 2006. During that time, they sold more than 60 million albums worldwide. They released a total of 16 albums together including their self-titled debut album in 1998 and Destiny Fulfilled, their final album released in 2004. Some of the group’s popular hits include “Say My Name,” “Survivor,” and “Bootylicious.”
During a three-year break from Destiny’s Child, Rowland released her first solo studio album Simply Deep (2002). The album contained the singles “Dilemma,” “Stole,” “Can’t Nobody,” and “Train on a Track.” All four songs were hits that appeared on charts all over the world.
Her second studio album was titled Ms. Kelly (2007). The album was a critical and commercial success. It included the singles “Like This,” “Ghetto,” and “Work.”
After a change in management and record labels, she released her third studio album, Here I Am, in 2011. The album rose to number three on the charts in the United States. It contained the singles “Commander,” “Rose Colored Glasses,” “Forever and a Day,” “Motivation,” “Lay it on Me,” and “Down for Whatever.”
In 2013, she was invited to reunite with Destiny’s Child and they performed together at the Super Bowl.
Talk a Good Game (2013) is her fourth studio album. It debuted at number four on the Billboard 200. The album was supported by her Lights Out Tour. The main singles from the album are “Kisses Down Low” and “Dirty Laundry.”
Rowland has also been featured in the work of many other artists including “Here We Go” with Trina, “When Love Takes Over” with David Guetta, and “Gone” with Nelly.
Rowland has worked as an actress on television and in films. Her television acting debut came in 2002 when she had a recurring role on the series The Hughleys. This earned her other opportunities for guest appearances on shows like Eve and American Dreams. Her film debut was in Freddy Vs. Jason (2003), a commercially successful American slasher film. She also co-starred in The Seat Filler (2005).
After her final tour with Destiny’s Child, she again returned to television on the UPN’s Girlfriends. She also appeared on Clash of the Choirs and co-hosted the reality competition The Fashion Show during its first season. Rowland hosted one season of X Factor UK as well as one season of Everybody Dance Now in Australia.
She worked as part of the cast of the American drama Empire, was a judge on The Voice Australia, and starred in the Lifetime movie Love By the 10th Date. She was chosen to play Gladys Knight in American Soul. Along with her husband she produced and starred in another Lifetime movie, Merry Liddle Christmas. Additionally, she was in the Hulu movie Bad Hair (2020). She is slated to star in an upcoming movie called Fantasy Football.
Rowland has had many spokesperson-ships and partnerships with companies and charities throughout her career. Most notably, she has worked with McDonald’s, Mercedes-Benz, Dove, and Sephora.
She has written two books, Whoa, Baby!: A Guide for New Moms Who Feel Overwhelmed and Freaked Out (and Wonder What the #*$& Just Happened) (2017) and Always With You, Always With Me (2022).
Kelly Rowland is the president of KTR TM Holdings, LLC. In 2018, KTR TM Holdings, LLC obtained a federal trademark registration for two separate logos with the words “FOR ALL CREATED EQUAL” and two lines for false eyelashes. It also obtained a federal trademark registration for “FOR ALL CREATED EQUAL” for false eyelashes. For All Created Equal is the name of Rowland’s makeup brand.
In 2022, KTR TM Holdings, LLC filed a trademark application for “KROUX 22” and “THE KROUX” for educational services including teaching online classes, and podcasts and providing online information about a number of topics including childcare, home care, and fashion.
