J.Cole (Jermaine Lamarr Cole), born on January 28, 1985, at a U.S. Army base in Frankfurt, is a mixtape producer, music producer and a rapper who has released many chart topping albums since 2010. Cole’s father was an African American soldier, and his mother was a German postal worker. Cole was raised in Fayetteville, North Carolina where he got into hip-hop through his stepfather’s copy of 2Pacalypse Now. He got inspired by the work of Nas, the Notorious B.I.G., Canibus, and Jay-Z, among many other artists. He joined the Terry Sanford Orchestra as a violinist and began teaching himself production and rapping. Cole’s high school grades were good which earned him a scholarship to study in St. John’s University in New York City. Cole knew that getting an education in the Big Apple would be best for his music career.

Cole started practicing music at an incredibly young age, he and his cousin used to practice music tricks and compose lyrics together. Cole’s mother gifted him a drum, after which he started practicing more and honed his skills. When Cole turned 16, he started creating his mixtapes and he used to send them to some of the known names in the industry like Eminem and Jay Z. Cole released his first mixtape ‘The come up’ as he wanted to get noticed, but his first attempts were unsuccessful. The album reached spot 2 at Billboard and was successful in selling more than 250000 copies in the first week alone. He released his best work (till date) in 2016, in form of ‘4 your eyez only’ which ranked number one in the Billboard 200 charts.
