The beauty industry has been snowballing over the decade, hitting a record high of $603 billion in market value in 2021. With new brands popping up yearly, the most notable names have come from A-list celebrities such as Rihanna and Selena Gomez. Another such venture is Lolavie.

Lolavie is the brainchild of Jennifer Aniston, an A-list Hollywood celebrity known for her roles in various blockbuster movies. The company is famous for its beauty products ranging from body to hair care.

Let’s dive into the company’s history, the meaning of its name, products, and trademarks.

Lolavie Meaning and History

Lolavie launched on Wednesday, September 8, 2021. The company’s name is said to mean “laughing at life.” However, it wasn’t the first time Jennifer Aniston used the name in a business venture.

In July 2010, Jennifer Aniston proposed to name her first perfume release Lolavie by Jennifer Aniston. However, she abruptly changed it to Jennifer Aniston to avoid having a similar name to a rival perfume.

The changes had to be made swiftly, opting to use her name for the brand since it would be easier to remember and clear against the competition’s names.

During the perfume’s launch, Jennifer Aniston never explained why she named it Lolavie. Fans started speculating, conceiving several rumors that Jennifer has never confirmed or denied.

There were two very popular theories about the inspiration behind the name Lolavie. One suggested that Lolavie was the name Jennifer Aniston and her former husband Brad Pitt wanted to name their first daughter if they were to have a child. The two divorced in 2005 without having a daughter together.

The second popular theory suggested Lolavie was the name of a young girl who passed away in a Mexican orphanage. The actress supported and had grown close to her.

Despite none of these rumors being confirmed, the speculations arose from Jennifer stating that the name has a long story behind it and is too personal to tell. Moreover, it has very special significance.

Jennifer’s name in the beauty industry did not start with Lolavie or her 2010 Jennifer Aniston perfume. The actress is credited for launching and fueling the “The Rachel” haircut craze that ran for decades. As a result, she’s often been viewed as a hair icon.

This haircut was a result of her hair’s natural tendency to curl up. Despite having natural hair, she rarely wears it curly when working.

Lolavie’s Products

Lolavie takes an organic and eco-friendly approach to its products. Before it was launched, the company’s website featured a bamboo plant in a lemon in a test tube on the homepage.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office shows that a trademark application was filed in July 2019 for the name. It covered non-medicated soaps for the face and body, lotions for the face and body, bath gel, non-medicated preparations for skin, nails, hair, and body care, deodorants for personal use, and shower gel.

Lolavie had three do-it-all hair products within a year of launch, with two more in the pipeline. The two products they were working on were due to popular demand. These were shampoo and conditioner.

The Restorative Shampoo and Restorative Conditioner, retailing for $29 at launch, focused on hair repair and rehydration using simple formulas. These two products took a lot of product development and research efforts to create.

However, most of the ingredients used to build these two customer-demanded products were lifted from other Lolavie products, such as hair oil, leave-in conditioner, and detangler. Other ingredients added to the product include chia extract, bamboo essence, and some plant or fruit-derived ceramides.

Cosmetic chemist Ginger King participated in developing these two products and stated that all the ingredients used help replenish moisture, strengthen hair, build a barrier to prevent water loss, moisturize, purify hair, and provide antioxidation.

Lolavie’s product development team has taken pride in another ingredient discovery, coconut alkanes. The brand labels it as a smoothing alternative to silicone. Silicone is what gives most conditioners a silky-slippery feeling after rinsing it from the hair.

Lolavie’s product development team extracts coconut alkane from the fatty acids of coconut oil. The ingredient improves the hair’s shine and silkiness without adding weight or leaving greasy residues like silicone.

However, not all silicone act like this. Ginger King notes that dimethicone and amodimethicone are generally good, but certain grades cause buildup. That is why Lolavie’s coconut alternative is a big deal in the industry.

A subtle citrus smell also distinguishes Lolavie’s products.

Lolavie’s Trademarks

Lolavie has sought or obtained federal trademark registration for about two trademarks. These are “LOLAVIE” and “LOLAVIE.”

Lolavie sought federal trademark registration for “LOLAVIE” on July 31, 2019. The company intends to use the trademark for its lotions for the face and body, non-medicated preparations for the care of the skin, non-medicated soaps for the face and body, shower gel, bath gel, and deodorants for personal use.
