Rashan Gary was born in Plainfield, New Jersey on December 3, 1997. He was an outstanding football player in high school. He first played football at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School, while living with his father. After moving to live with his mother, he attended Paramus Catholic High School, where he went to school alongside future Michigan teammates, offensive lineman, Juwann Bushell-Beatty, and defensive back, Jabrill Peppers.

At the time, Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School accused Paramus Catholic High School of recruiting Gary, however, those allegations were later found to be untrue.

Gary recorded 55 tackles and 14 sacks during his junior year at Paramus Catholic High School and 55 tackles and 13.5 sacks, along with four forced fumbles during his senior year. Coming out of high school, he was widely considered the top prospect that year and rated as a consensus five-star recruit. He was named All-America first team and USA Today All-USA Defensive Player of the Year. He was also named as the New Jersey Defensive Player of the Year, in both his junior and senior years of high school. He was also invited to play in the Under Armour All-American Game and was named his team’s MVP for that game.

He was recruited by Clemson, Auburn, Ole Miss, and USC but ultimately chose to attend the University of Michigan.

As a freshman at Michigan, Gary started in 13 games, playing as a defensive end. He recorded 23 tackles, five for loss, and one sack. He also played in the team’s appearance at the Orange Bowl against Florida State University. During his sophomore year, he started and played in all 13 games and had 66 tackles,12 for loss, and six sacks. He was awarded the Richard Katcher Award by his university and was named All-Big Ten first-team in the coaches poll, as well as All-Big Ten second-team by the media and Associated Press.

Gary missed several games during his junior season due to a shoulder injury. Due to this, he only played in nine games that season, but still recorded 38 tackles, 6.5 for a loss, and 3.5 sacks. He was a unanimous first-team All-Big Ten selection. During his time at Michigan, Gary was a three-time letterman, two-time All-Big Ten selection, and a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.

Gary decided to forego his final year of collegiate eligibility and declared for the 2019 Draft. He founded his own sports agency, Rashan Gary Sports, making him his own agent.

He attended the 2019 NFL Combine, where he ran a 4.58-second, 40-yard dash and recorded a 38-inch vertical jump. He was taken by the Green Bay Packers in the first round of the draft, who would move him from defensive end to outside linebacker, before the start of his rookie season. His first sack, as a professional, was on Joe Flacco, who was playing for the Denver Broncos at the time. Gary played in all 16 games his rookie season, recording 21 tackles, two sacks, and a fumble recovery.

In 2020, Gary started in four of the 15 games that he played in for the Packers and recorded 34 tackles and five sacks. In 2021, he played in all 19 games, having a total of 42 tackles and 9.5 sacks. He also recorded two sacks in the postseason that year.

In 2018, Rashan Gary obtained a federal trademark registration for his name, “RASHAN GARY” for use with clothing including t-shirts, sweatpants, and sneakers.

In 2019, he also obtained a federal trademark registration for a logo that is a triangular design that includes his initials, “R.G.”, for a wide array of athletic apparel.
