Ndamukong Suh is a professional football player. He is a Super Bowl champion, a former Pro Bowler, and an All-Pro player.
Ndamukong Suh was born in 1987 and is originally from Portland, Oregon. He played football, basketball, soccer, and track and field at Grant High School in Portland. As a senior, he was named an All-American by Parade Magazine. He was a Class 4A first-team all-state selection and 2004 Portland Interscholastic League Defensive Player of the Year. Coming out of high school, he was ranked as the sixth-best defensive tackle in the nation and was widely considered a four-star recruit. He was heavily recruited by schools in both the Southeastern Conference and the Pacific-12 Conference. Suh would commit to the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
At the University of Nebraska, Suh was only able to play in two games during his freshman season, because he suffered a season-ending knee injury during his second game. He had knee surgery and received a medical redshirt for the season. Suh would go on to play in every game as a sophomore. During the next season, he started every game, leading the team in tackles and recording two interceptions that were both returned for touchdowns. As a senior, he again led the team in tackles and recorded twelve sacks and an interception. He helped to take the team to the Big 12 Championship Game, where they lost to Texas. He was named the Big-12 Defensive Player of the Year and the College Football Player of the Year. He was awarded many trophies including the Chuck Bednarik Award and the Lombardi Award. Suh was named a unanimous First-team All-American and was also a finalist for the Heisman Trophy.
After an impressive showing at the NFL Combine, Suh was selected second overall in the draft by the Detroit Lions. He signed a five-year contract with the Lions worth almost $70 million.
Suh led the league with ten sacks during his rookie season. He was named Rookie of the Year by most sporting organizations and news entities as well as First-team All-Pro. The next season was a tumultuous one, as he only recorded 26 tackles and four sacks, and he received a two-game suspension from the league. Even with that, he was named as an alternate to the Pro Bowl. During the 2012 season, he recorded 25 tackles and eight sacks. Suh played for the Lions for two more years, recording equally impressive numbers.
In 2015, Suh negotiated his own contract with the Miami Dolphins. The deal was said to be worth more than $114 million over a six-year time frame. The contract made Suh the highest-paid player in the NFL at that time and the highest-paid defensive player in history. Suh played well for the Dolphins over the next three years and was consistently rated one of the top 100 players in the NFL by his peers, however, the team failed to find success. He was released by the Dolphins so that the team could clear up cap space.
In 2018, Suh signed with the Los Angeles Rams for $14 million for just a single year. Suh helped the team to the playoffs and Super Bowl, where they lost to the New England Patriots. The Rams chose not to re-sign him.
In 2019, Suh Signed a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That season, he recorded 41 tackles, two and a half sacks, and two touchdowns. In 2020, the team signed him to another one-year deal and added legendary quarterback, Tom Brady. Suh was a part of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Super Bowl-winning team recording one and a half sacks during Super Bowl LV. The Buccs would again sign him to the team for another year. Suh performed well enough, but the team was eliminated during the playoffs and did not return to the Super Bowl. As of February 2021, Suh has not immediately been re-signed by the team, which leaves him as a free agent.
Ndamukong Suh is well known to be an astute businessman and has been involved in many businesses and charities throughout his professional football career.
House of Spears Management, LLC was created by Ndamukong Suh. In 2010, House of Spears Management, LLC filed a trademark application for “SUH” for printed materials like posters, trading cards, and football programs. It also applied for a trademark registration for “SUH” for use on common clothing items, as well as sporting goods related to football. Additionally, the company filed a trademark application for “SUH” for endorsement services as well as entertainment services, specifically appearances by a football player.
In 2010, House of Spears Management, LLC applied for a trademark for “NDAMUKONG SUH” and “HOUSE OF SPEARS” for the same purposes.
