Kevin Durant is one of the most recognizable and successful players in the National Basketball Association, enjoying widespread popularity around the globe. Making a major impact from his rookie NBA season and beyond, Durant has gone on to numerous All-Star Game appearances, MVP awards, scoring titles, and NBA championships, all while making an impact off the court in his charity endeavors as well.
After a standout prep school career, Durant attended the University of Texas for one year, leading the Longhorns to a 25-10 overall record and a #4 seed in the NCAA tournament for the 2006-07 season. As a freshman, Durant won the John R. Wooden Award and the Naismith College Player of the Year Award, along with numerous other college player of the year honors. Forgoing the remainder of his eligibility, Durant declared for the 2007 NBA draft and was chosen by the Seattle SuperSonics with the #2 pick.
Averaging 20.3 points for the 2007-2008 season, Durant won the NBA Rookie of the Year award, an auspicious start to a career that would only grow in prestige. Following the season, the SuperSonics relocated to Oklahoma City to become the Thunder, which would be one of the most successful NBA franchises of the ensuing half-decade behind Durant and teammate Russell Westbrook.
Winning back-to-back-to-back scoring titles in the 2009-10, 2010-11, and lockout-shortened 2011-12 seasons, Durant led the Thunder on a series of playoff runs, culminating in an NBA Finals appearance in 2012, ultimately losing to the Miami Heat. Although an NBA title continued to elude him, Durant won NBA Most Valuable Player honors for the 2013-14 season, averaging 32 points a game, with supporting stats of 7.4 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game. While the Thunder continued to enjoy success, Durant’s tenure with the team drew to a close upon his 2016 free agency.
The 2016 offseason brought the news of Durant’s signing with the high-powered Golden State Warriors, joining fellow superstars like Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. Durant’s search for a championship was quickly fulfilled, as he returned from an injury-interrupted 2016-17 campaign to join the Warriors on a historic playoff run, going undefeated through the first three rounds. Durant then led the Warriors in scoring in every game of the NBA Finals on the way to defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers for his first NBA title, winning Finals MVP along the way.
The 2017-18 season brought further success for the Warriors, despite injuries to Durant, Curry, and Thompson for portions of the year. Returning to full strength for the playoffs, the Warriors overcame the Houston Rockets in a difficult Western Conference Finals matchup to return to the NBA Finals, again defeating the Cavaliers for their second straight championship, with Durant again voted as the Most Valuable Player in the Finals.
In 2019, Durant announced his signing with the Brooklyn Nets, although he missed the 2019-20 season due to injury. After recovering from COVID-19, Durant finally made his Nets debut in December 2020.
Off the court, Durant is renowned for his charity work and commitment to philanthropy, and it is in this area that many of his trademark filings are centered. With marks including “Moveasone,” “Team Durant,” “Build It and They Will Ball,” and “KDCF Kevin Durant Charity Foundation,” Durant’s charitable efforts include basketball camps, travel teams, youth training session, social programs, community and infrastructure support, educational programs, and more.
