James Harden is one of the most prolific scorers in the National Basketball Association and is widely considered to be the best shooting guard and one of the overall best players in the league. He plays for the Brooklyn Nets.

James Harden is originally from Los Angeles, California, and was born in 1989. He played high school basketball in Lakewood, California at Artesia High School, where he was named a McDonald’s All-American and was awarded second-team Parade All-American honors. He chose to attend Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona, where he was again a standout player. He was awarded first-team All-Pac-10 as a freshman, was named to the conference all-freshman team, and to the first-team All-District. In his sophomore year, he averaged more than 20 points per game, was named to the 2009 All-Pac 10 Tournament Team, was named a consensus All-American, and was named the Pac-10 Conference’s Player of the Year. He declared for the NBA Draft after his sophomore year.

Harden was drafted third by the Oklahoma City Thunder. He made an immediate impact and was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team and awarded the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award. He had a successful run in Oklahoma City and helped the team reach the 2012 NBA Finals. He did not re-sign with the team during the 2012 free agency period.

Harden then signed a contract with the Houston Rockets for five years, worth more than $80 million. That day in a game against the Detroit Pistons, he scored 37 points along with 12 assists, six rebounds, and four steals. James Harden played for the Houston Rockets from 2012 until 2021. In that time, he played in nine NBA All-Star Games, was named All-NBA First Team six times, was the NBA scoring champion three times, was the NBA assists leader, the NBA Most Valuable Player of 2018, and was named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team. Although Harden had played well during his years in Houston and in no way appeared to be in decline, he ended up leaving the team after a dispute over general philosophy and the direction of the team. James Harden asked for a trade in November of 2020. He was traded to the Brooklyn Nets, effective on January 14, 2021, and the trade involved four teams.

He made his debut for the Brooklyn Nets in a win over the Orlando Magic. In that game, he scored 32 points and had 12 rebounds and 14 assists, becoming the first player to do so in their debut in franchise history. His 30-point triple-double debut performance was also a first in NBA history. Harden has found success during his short time with the Nets, having scored an average of more than 24 points per game in his first season with them. He also helped the team make it to the Eastern Conference Semifinals, where they lost to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Harden and his mother, founded and funds his charitable organization, 3 The Harden Way. The organization has organized food drives throughout the Houston area, provided a week’s worth of groceries to hundreds of families, and at a different time, provided groceries for 5,000 families in crisis. The organization also hosts a charity softball game, a silent auction, JH Town Weekend for charity, and The Black Excellence Dinner, which helps to support young African American female entrepreneurs. Harden has also given donations and lent his name to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts and neighborhood renovations in Houston, Texas.

Outside of basketball, Harden has also found success in many other areas. He has a recording studio, Music Studio 13, LLC at his home. Drake, Meek Mill, and Lil Baby have all recorded music there. He holds a minority share in Saks, where he is also a board member. Harden is an investor in and the Creative Director of Smart Home Fragrance Brand Pura. He is also invested in BodyArmor, Art of Sport, Therabody, and several real estate ventures. He is part-owner of Major League Soccer’s Houston Dynamo, as well as the National Women’s Soccer League’s Houston Dash. Harden also founded a luxury dining establishment, Thirteen By James Harden. After some delays, the restaurant opened in 2021. Upon its opening, they donated 3,000 meals to charity, did promotional tastings offering a free signature cocktail, and received generally positive reviews.

James Harden, along with his mother, is the owner of 13 Strikes, LLC. In 2020, 13 Strikes, LLC filed a trademark application for “THIRTEEN BY JAMES HARDEN” for use on clothing items which include pants, shirts, jerseys, athletic wear, and other similar items.
