Jalen Brunson is a professional basketball player in the National Basketball Association and he is a point guard for the Dallas Mavericks. In college, he played for Villanova University, winning two national championships during his time there.
Jalen Brunson’s parents met at Temple University, where they were both athletes. Brunson was born in 1996 and spent his early childhood in New Jersey. Eventually, his family relocated to Lincolnshire, Illinois, where he attended high school. In his sophomore year at Stevenson High School, he averaged 21.5 points per game. As a junior, he broke both the school single-game and career scoring records, the IHSA playoff single-game scoring record, and was named Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Illinois. As a senior in high school, Brunson was ranked the number one point guard in his class by Scout.com. He helped to lead his team to a state title and was again named Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Illinois. Brunson was widely considered a five-star recruit and the second-best point guard in the nation coming out of high school. He chose to attend Villanova University.
In 2014, he won a gold medal representing the United States at the FIBA Americas Under-18 Championship.
As a freshman, Brunson started in 39 of the 40 games that he played in. He averaged almost ten points per game and helped to lead his team to their first NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Championship. He was named a unanimous Big East All-Freshman Team selection. As a sophomore, he had his first double, which came against Seton Hall. Brunson played in and started 36 games that season and averaged 14.7 points per game. As a junior, he was awarded an Academic All-District selection, the Naismith Award, the Wooden Award, and as a unanimous 2017–18 All-Big East selection. Brunson was named the Big East Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the Big East Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Year, as well as a consensus first-team All-American. He started and played in 40 games that season and averaged 18.9 points per game. He also helped to lead his team to their second NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Championship. Sporting News named him college basketball player of the decade.
Brunson was selected by the Dallas Mavericks in the 2018 Draft. He was the 33rd pick of the draft. His first professional game was against the Phoenix Suns, and during that game, he scored three points, along with one rebound and one assist. He would then come off the bench to play in the next four games. His first start, against the Toronto Raptors, was due to the injury of another player. He had eight points with four assists and three rebounds. He started in 38 games and played in 73 his rookie season, where he averaged almost ten points per game with two rebounds and two assists. In Brunson’s second season as a professional, he started in 16 of the 57 games that he played in. For the season, he averaged a little over eight points per game with two rebounds and three assists per game. In his third season for the Dallas Mavericks, he started in 12 games and played in 68, where he averaged 12.6 points per game with 3.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists. He is still an active player for the Dallas Mavericks.
Jalen Brunson established JMB1 Enterprises, LLC to oversee his business interests. In 2018, JMB1 Enterprises, LLC filed a trademark application for a logo that is the letters “J” and “B” in a stylized font for use on printed materials and paper goods like brochures for basketball camps and basketball instruction, letterhead, envelopes, and posters. The company also applied for a trademark for this logo to be used on sporting goods like balls, basketball camps, and instructional videos. In 2021, it also applied for a federal trademark registration for this logo to be used on clothing items including polo shirts, shorts, sweatpants, and hats.
JMB1 Enterprises also applied for a trademark for the phrase “THE MAGIC IS IN THE WORK” for the same purposes. Additionally, they applied for a federal trademark registration for “THE MAGIC IS IN THE WORK” for use on wristbands as clothing.
In 2021, the company filed a trademark application for the phrase “IMMACULATE VIBES” for use on clothing items that include footwear, jerseys, sweaters, hats, baby clothes, swimwear, and many others. I also filed a trademark application for the phrase “IMMACULATE VIBES ONLY” for use on the same types of clothing.
In 2021, JMB1 Enterprises filed a trademark application for the phrase “BRUNSON BURNER” to be used for promoting sporting events and persons, business management, and marketing promotion of others, as well as other similar purposes. It also applied for a trademark for “BRUNSON BURNER” for use on clothing items that include footwear, jerseys, sweaters, hats, baby clothes, swimwear, and other clothing items.
