Jacoby Jones is a former NFL player who holds the record for the longest play in Super Bowl history.
Jacoby Rashi’d Jones is from New Orleans, Louisiana, and was born in 1984. He lettered in football at Marion Abramson High School and was also an All-Metropolitan selection and an All-Area selection in both basketball and track. He attended Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana on a track scholarship, before transferring to Lane College which is a Division II school. He was named All-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for three years during his collegiate career. At the NFL Combine, he ran a 4.53-second 40-yard dash and had a 34-inch vertical jump.
Jones was drafted in the third round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans and he would play for the Texans until 2012. His career with the Texans was tumultuous, sometimes he struggled with punt returns, and at other times he would return the ball for spectacular yards, such as his 70-yard return against the Miami Dolphins in 2008. During an AFC Divisional Playoff game, in January 2012, he muffed a punt that ultimately led to his team’s defeat and subsequently dropping from Super Bowl contention. This would play heavily into the Texans’ decision to release him from the team the following spring.
The Baltimore Ravens would then give Jones an opportunity, by signing him to a two-year deal. That fall, he returned a kickoff from the Dallas Cowboys for the most yardage in NFL history. Later that season, he would become the first player to return two kicks for more than 105 yards in the same season. His efforts got him voted to the Pro Bowl as a punt return/kick return specialist. In the playoffs that year, he caught a 70-yard touchdown pass that is called the “Mile High Miracle”.
In 2020, Jones applied for a trademark for “MILE HIGH MIRACLE” for use on hats, sweatshirts, and other athletic apparel.
Ultimately his “Mile-High Miracle” would lead to a playoff victory on the road to the Super Bowl. The Ravens would win the Super Bowl that year, largely helped by Jones’ 56-yard touchdown catch and return for a touchdown. He would end up on the cover of Sports Illustrated for his Super Bowl performance.
In 2013, the Ravens played the Minnesota Vikings in a December game so laden with snow that it was dubbed the “Snow Game.” During the course of the game, Jones recorded a spectacular kickoff return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
In 2021, Jones obtained a federal trademark registration for “SNOW GAME LEGEND. SNOW GAME 2K13” for hats, sweatshirts, and other athletic apparel.
During his time with the Baltimore Ravens, Jones notoriously had a return for a touchdown called back, because the Steelers’ head coach, Mike Tomlin, stood on the playing field during the return. Jones played for the Ravens until 2015 when he was cut because of diminished productivity. He played several games for both the San Diego Chargers and the Pittsburgh Steelers during the 2015 season but was ultimately cut by both teams, after just a few weeks.
Jones played the 2017 season with the Monterrey Steel as a wide receiver and punt returner. He appeared in eight games and scored one touchdown. At the end of the 2017 season, he signed a one-day contract with the Baltimore Ravens, so that he could officially retire with the team.
In 2012, while he was still playing football, Jacoby Jones created a company named, First Down Funding. In 2020, he obtained a federal trademark registration for “FIRST DOWN FUNDING” for financing business loans for small to medium-size businesses to provide working capital.
First Down Funding provides small business loans to retail stores, restaurants, healthcare businesses, and other companies nationwide. Its goal is to provide a unique service designed for a niche market and establish itself as a go-to for quick capital for businesses in need. Jones leverages his celebrity in Maryland, where he established the company to help the business gain a foothold.
In 2020, he obtained a federal trademark registration for a logo featuring the company name and tagline “FIRST DOWN FUNDING 1ST DOWN & FUNDED!” and a logo featuring the company initials “FDF” for financing business loans and the like.
Jones also obtained a federal trademark registration for “FDFUNDS.COM 1ST DOWN & FUNDED!” which pertains to the company’s website, for financial services. He also filed a trademark application for a logo featuring the company name and slogan,” FIRST DOWN FUNDING · SMALL BUSINESS · FUNDING FAST · ESTABLISHED 2012” and a logo with a varied slogan “FIRST DOWN FUNDING · SMALL BUSINESS FUNDING · WHEN YOU NEED IT · ESTABLISHED 2012” for the same purposes.
He obtained a federal trademark registration for a logo featuring the words “MVF MOST VALUABLE FUNDER” for financial services. This has been used as a slogan by the company in some advertising campaigns.
In 2020, Jones obtained a federal trademark registration for “PLAYBOOK BY FIRST DOWN FUNDING” and a logo featuring the words “PLAYBOOK BY FIRST DOWN FUNDING 1ST DOWN & FUNDED X O $$” written over the image of a football field for financial services. The “Playbook” is the overall success plan that the company uses to help small to medium-sized businesses with financial planning.
Jones also applied for a trademark for the phrase “FUNDING IS FOR THE BOYS” for athletic apparel. He has been photographed in items printed with this slogan.
