Professional basketball player, Davion Mitchell was born on September 5, 1998 in Hinesville, Georgia. He has no siblings and is the only child of his parents Lakisha Mitchell and Earl Legette.
Davion attended Liberty Country High School, where he played basketball. In his junior year, Mitchell’s team won its first Class 4A state title and he was named Player of the Year by the Savannah Morning News. He also competed in the Amateur Athletic Union circuit for the Georgia Stars during his senior year of high school.
Following high school, Davion received offers from numerous schools such as, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Cincinnati, UConn and more, though he eventually committed to Auburn. After his freshman season at Auburn, Mitchell transferred to Baylor University, but due to NCAA transfer rules, he had to sit out his next season.
After an outstanding sophomore (red shirt) season, where he averaged 3.8 assists and 9.9 points per game, Mitchell was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, along with other awards.
During his junior year, Davion helped Baylor to win its first national championship against the undefeated Gonzaga. Mitchell received multiple defensive player awards, such as: the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, Naismith Defensive Player of the Year, the Lefty Driesell Award, and more. Mitchell then chose to forgo his remaining college eligibility and declared for the 2021 NBA Draft.
The Sacramento Kings choose Davion in pick 9 of Round 1 of the 2021 NBA Draft thanks to his impressive final year in college ball. He will begin his professional career in the 2021-22 NBA season.
