Clayton Kershaw Trademarks

Clayton Kershaw is a professional baseball player. He has been playing in Major League Baseball for more than a decade and is currently the starting pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League. Kershaw is widely considered a generational talent, a future Hall of Famer, and one of the greatest pitchers of all time.

On March 19, 1988, Clayton Edward Kershaw was born in Dallas, Texas. He attended high school at Highland Park High School where he played baseball and football. He also met his future wife, with whom he would have three children while attending Highland Park.

In football, he was the starting center for future Superbowl-winning quarterback, Matthew Stafford. In baseball, he was an elite high school prospect as a pitcher. He was selected to USA Baseball’s Junior National Team, named High School Baseball Player of the Year by USA Today, and Gatorade National Player of the Year for baseball.

Kershaw was drafted in the first round of the 2006 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He decided to forego his original commitment to Texas A&M University when he was drafted. He spent one year playing in the farm league before he was called up by the Dodgers.

In his professional debut, he had seven strikeouts, including the first batter he ever faced. In 2011, Kershaw won the first of his three Cy Young awards. 2011 was also his first of nine inclusions in the All-Star game. That same year, he also received the Gold Glove Award and the pitching triple crown.

Kershaw has spent his entire 14-year career with the Los Angeles Dodgers, winning the World Series with them in 2020. During his career, he has been named the National League MVP (2014), won the Roberto Clemente Award (2012), and is a three-time National League wins leader, five-time National League ERA Leader, and three-time National League strikeout leader.

Clayton Kershaw is still an active player and the starting pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Kershaw and his wife Ellen founded Kershaw’s Challenge after a chance meeting with a young HIV patient in Zambia in 2011. Kershaw’s Challenge is a faith-based charitable organization that focuses on the needs of underserved children, especially in Los Angeles, Dallas, Zambia, and the Dominican Republic. The organization helps to raise money for and partner with other nonprofit organizations that serve similar goals.

Kershaw’s Challenge has given more than $12 million to help fund other nonprofits. The organization also spent three years helping to upgrade the sports center at Behind Every Door in Dallas, Texas. Continued renovations include a football field and a Little League baseball field. The nonprofit is also helping to build a brand-new all-abilities playground at For Oak Cliff in Dallas, as well as sponsoring the annual Back to School Festival.

Kershaw’s non-profit also helps support local families that are struggling with food insecurity. In Los Angeles, the organization supports the Dream Center’s Back to School Bash and the Foster Care Intervention Program. Kershaw’s Challenge also teams up with Shoes that Fit to give new shoes to children in both Dallas and Los Angeles. Overseas, Kershaw’s Challenge works with Arise Africa and BEB to support those in need in Zambia and with International Justice Mission and BEB to support those in need in the Dominican Republic.

In 2016, Kershaw Management, LLC obtained a federal trademark registration for “KERSHAW’S CHALLENGE” for charitable foundation services including charitable fundraising and providing funding for individuals and organizations, for charitable services including conducting volunteer programs, and for T-shirts and hats. Branded T-shirts and hats are often worn by Kershaw Challenge volunteers during organized events.

“Strikeout to Serve” is Kershaw’s fundraising initiative. He began this initiative in 2014. Every time Kershaw throws a strikeout, he and GiveStep.com each donate to a chosen charity. GiveStep is an online platform that helps to enable charity giving. Kershaw usually chooses several organizations each season to be recipients of his Strikeout to Serve donations.

A federal trademark registration for “STRIKEOUT TO SERVE” was obtained by Kershaw Management, LLC in 2016 and is used for charitable foundation services including charitable fundraising and providing funding for individuals and organizations, for charitable services including conducting volunteer programs, and for T-shirts and hats.

In 2022, Kershaw Management, LLC filed a trademark application for the image of Kershaw’s signature, “CLAYTON KERSHAW” for baseball cards and photographs, for baseball jerseys and baseball caps, and for baseballs and baseball gloves. These items can all be purchased on Kershaw’s Challenge website where the sales help to fund the foundation.
