Cary Williams is a former amateur boxer and the founder of Prime Time Boxing Inc. She was the CEO of Prime Time Boxing Inc from January 1998 through December 2021, when she stepped down from the position.
Cary Williams is from Sacramento, California. She was raised by her father who she credits for teaching her to stand up for herself. She attended California State University-Sacramento where she received her Bachelor of Science.
Williams married Angelo Nunez. Nunez is a former boxer who matched up with many notable opponents, including Floyd Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya. He worked as a sparring partner for De La Hoya as well as working as an advisor to his camp in California. Nunez has also worked as a boxing coach for the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Together, Williams and Nunez opened a gym in Sacramento in 1998 and named it Prime Time Boxing. After training boxers for about a year, Williams decided to step into the ring herself so that she could become a better coach. After training for two years, she won the Pacific Northwest Women’s Tournament before retiring.
Williams is a Certified Level IV Boxing coach by USA Boxing. She has found success training many boxers, including several women who went on to the Olympic Trials. She has also trained celebrities like former Miss Hawaii – Kelly Hu, Houston Rockets owner – Tilman Fertitta, and actor – Kevin Alejandro.
In 2007, Williams and Nunez expanded their business by opening gyms in multiple new locations. Williams and Nunez also worked together with Everlast Fitness to create Everlast ShadowBox, which is a group fitness class. They were able to exhibit their Prime Time Boxing brand in several trade shows including the IHRSA Trade Show and the Club Industry Show. During this time, Williams also worked with Everlast on apparel and equipment designs. She also was a spokesperson for the brand and would appear in several ad campaigns for the company.
In 2010, Williams and Nunez created the Knocking Out Obesity Tour. The tour visits the cities that Men’s Health has determined to be the “10 Fattest Cities in America” and holds demonstrations of health and fitness classes for residents. Williams was the tour director from 2010 until 2012.
Williams also co-created and appeared in instructional boxing videos with her husband, Nunez, including, “Boxing 101” Boxing Camp Workout and “Additional Fundamentals.” She also created the ”Too Pretty” brand, which helps to empower young women to believe in themselves and work towards non-traditional goals. However, by 2018, Williams had sold her stake in the many businesses she had created.
Also in 2018, Williams then launched Boxing and Barbells where she teaches classes in boxing and fitness. She also applied for and obtained a federal trademark registration for “BOXING AND BELLS” for education services, related to boxing and physical fitness and includes providing panel discussions, personal training, and consultancy.
Cary Williams also obtained a federal trademark registration for “PRIME TIME BOXING” for boxing instruction as well as sports training services, educational and training services, and organizing sporting events, all relating to the chain of gyms she co-founded in California.
