Our New York continuing legal education courses focus on intellectual property law, more specifically trademarks. While you may not realize it, intellectual property can be found in every industry, as each business has at least one protectable trademark – their name. Our courses provide basic, but important information surrounding trademark law, allowing you to speak knowledgeably on the topic and perhaps provide added value to your clients.
Attorneys licensed by the State Bar of New York are required to complete 24 CLE credit hours every two years. Four credit hours must be dedicated to Ethics & Professionalism and one credit hour must pertain to Diversity, Inclusion & Elimination of Bias.
All 24 credit hours may be completed through online activities from Accredited Provider(s).
Attorneys in New York can acquire their NY CLE credit hours by attending continuing legal education courses in any traditional live format or nontraditional formats such as audiotapes, videoconferences, online courses, webinars etc, as long as the course is held by an Accredited Provider or the course is eligible for credit under NY’s Approved Jurisdiction policy.

Yes, in New York, attorneys can roll over a maximum of six NY CLE credit hours, including Ethics & Professionalism credit hours.
Attorneys who are newly admitted to the State Bar of New York must complete 16 transitional CLE credit hours per year during their first two year cycle, for a total of 32 hours. During each year, the 16 CLE credit hours must be broken up into three hours of Ethics & Professionalism, six hours of skills, and seven hours of Law Practice Management and/or areas of professional practice.
For NY attorneys licensed for two years or more, your compliance deadline based upon your birthday and the year you were admitted to the State Bar of New York.
For attorneys admitted in an even numbered year, your deadline for CLE compliance is 30 days after your birthday on every even numbered year.
For attorneys admitted in an odd numbered year, your deadline for CLE compliance is 30 days after your birthday on every odd numbered year.
For any attorney admitted to the NY State bar at any time prior to January 1, 1982, your compliance deadline falls on every even numbered year.
The CLE program of New York is a self-reporting system. All compliance must be reported by the licensed attorney, who must also maintain all documents of compliance for at least four years after completion in case of audit.
New York attorneys will receive an attorney registration form by their birthday. They can complete and return the form, which certifies that they have completed and kept proper documentation of their NY CLE requirement for that reporting cycle, or they can also fill out the same form on the New York State Unified Court System’s website. In either case, NY attorneys do not need to provide the CLE board with certificates of completion.
New York Accredited Providers are not required to report attendance for their event. However, Gerben Perrott, PLLC will provide you a Certificate of Attendance for your records within 48 hours of the event.
Continuing legal education promotes continuing professional development for attorneys, allowing them to maintain or deepen their skills or learn something new in the field of law.
MCLE stands for mandatory (or minimum) continuing legal education and is just a different name for CLEs.
