The Washington Post and Josh Gerben Speak about Potential Challenges for the Washington Football Team Rebrand

It’s been 18 months since the Washington Football Team started its rebranding efforts. Now that the new branding has been decided, the hard part – reintroducing themselves to their fans – begins.
The Washington Post and Josh Gerben discussed a potential trademark strategy the NFL Team could have used to secure federal protection for their new branding.
Josh Gerben, a trademark attorney and the founder of Gerben Perrott, PLLC, said if he were advising the Washington Football Team, it would have filed trademark applications as soon as it settled on a list of finalists, protecting its preferred choices from others trying to sneak in line ahead of it.
“The challenge is, in the U.S., there are thousands of trademark filings every day,” Gerben said.
