The Philadelphia Inquirer Speaks to Josh Gerben About Saquon Barkley’s “2K SA” Trademarks
After hitting the 2,000 rushing yard mark, Saquon Barkley filed to protect multiple “2K SA” trademarks with the USPTO. The trademark filings indicate that Barkley will sell merchandise under the name.
The Philadelphia Inquirer and Josh Gerben discussed how quickly Barkley filed the trademarks.
“There was clearly a plan in place to get this trademark application filed the day after he hit the 2,000-yard mark,” said trademark lawyer Josh Gerben, who broke the news of the filing. “By getting the filing made, Saquon ensured that no squatters took the 2K SA phrase and provided his team with the ability to police the marketplace and stop the sale of any unlicensed merchandise. It is rare to see an athlete this on top of things from a legal perspective. His off-the-field business acumen clearly rivals his on-field talent.”
