Portland Business Journal Quotes Josh Gerben About Nike’s FOOTWARE Trademark Application

Last month, Nike applied for a trademark application for the mark ‘FOOTWARE.’ The application indicated that Nike intends to offer a ‘FOOTWARE’ branded product that will allow users to interact with other smart devices. This will not be Nike’s first foray into this field; the shoe-maker already introduced self-lacing basketball shoes that are controlled by a smartphone.
Josh Gerben was quoted by the Portland Business Journal stating that the trademark filing indicates Nike may soon call its new ‘smart shoes’ FOOTWARE instead of FOOTWEAR.
Nike has filed a trademark for FOOTWARE.
Per the filing, #Nike intends to offer “software” and “hardware” products for users to interact with other smart devices.
Essentially, it appears that Nike will start to brand any “smart” shoes as FOOTWARE as opposed to FOOTWEAR.$NKE pic.twitter.com/hFA67XUNek
