Eric Perrott Files First-Ever Petition for Expungement with the USPTO

The Trademark Modernization Act of 2020 went into effect on December 18, 2021, giving third parties the ability to file a petition to the USPTO to “expunge” goods and services that should not have been registered or request a “reexamination” of a trademark registration.

Prior to the enactment of the bill, Eric Perrott participated in discussions of policy with the staff of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Intellectual Property. These discussions would eventually lead to the policies found within the Trademark Modernization Act.

Days after the proceedings that he helped create were launched, Eric submitted his first Petition of Expungement to the USPTO and was proud to find out that his petition, Petition Number 2021-100001, was the first Petition of Expungement to ever be submitted.

The Petition can be found here: USPTO Petition for Expungement
