Billboard Credits Josh Gerben with Breaking News of Backstreet Boys Trademark Filing

The Backstreet Boys have filed a trademark to protect the sound of their voices, following in the footsteps of other musicians and celebrities, who are hoping to use the filings to protect against AI deepfakes.

The “sound” trademark filing was made on June 24 and protects the band saying “Hi, we’re the Backstreet Boys.”

The filings obtained and reviewed by Billboard,were first reported by Josh Gerben, a trademark attorney unaffiliated with the matter. The filing cites an audio clip of all five of the members saying “Hi, we’re the Backstreet Boys” in unison.
