The number of metaverse-related trademark applications submitted to the USPTO has seen a rapid decline over the course of 2022. The number of applications filed in October were half the number filed in March.
Adweek discussed what the decline in trademark applications means with Josh Gerben.
“The gold rush era of Web3 is over,” said Josh Gerben. “The folks that are going to file trademark applications going forward are likely going to be the companies doing serious work in the space. The speculators are likely spending less and have fewer resources now than they did earlier this year.”
