Michael J. Tier, Esq. is an intellectual property attorney with extensive experience handling trademark and copyright issues.  He has served clients in a wide variety of industries, including biosciences, pharmaceuticals, health care, consumer goods, retail, and hospitality.

The first part of Michael’s career was spent as a trademark paralegal, working for both large law firms and large corporations.  He spent this time observing and learning from experienced intellectual property attorneys, gaining an extensive knowledge of the intricacies of trademark and copyright prosecution and enforcement along the way.

To continue his professional growth and development, Michael decided to go to law school and become an attorney.  He attended Widener University School of Law in the evenings, while juggling his already demanding work schedule.

Michael’s law practice now focuses on all phases of trademark procurement, clearance, counseling, and enforcement, including federal litigation and proceedings before the Trial Trademark and Appeal Board.

Throughout his practice, Michael has been an active member of the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division, the Benjamin Franklin American Inn of Court, and Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyers of the Arts.

Outside of work, Michael has a passion for creating music, reading, and spending time with his wife and many pets.

1. Managed a large international trademark portfolio of over 5,000 active marks on behalf of an international manufacturing company. 
2. Successfully enforced trademark rights in numerous jurisdictions across the globe for a national cleaning supplies manufacturer.
3. Settled a trademark dispute in the EU between a medical device manufacturer and a biotechnology company.
4. Successfully negotiated a consent and co-existence agreement between two companies that sell musical accessories.
5. Created litigation strategy which led to the settlement of a dispute involving trademark and right of publicity claims between a wig manufacturer and hair model.
6. Created litigation strategy which led to the settlement of a dispute involving trademark counterfeiting claims between an importer and manufacturer of consumer goods from India.
7. Created litigation strategy which led to the settlement of a dispute involving trademark and false advertising claims between two manufacturers of weighted blankets.
