Josh Gerben Analyzes Startup’s Attempt to Cancel ‘Twitter’ Trademarks for Reuters
Operation Bluebird, Inc, a social media startup, is attempting to cancel X Corp’s trademarks for ‘Tweet’ and ‘Twitter,’ claiming the company abandoned the marks. The Cancellation filing comes after the startup filed trademark applications to protect ‘Tweet’ and ‘Twitter.’
Josh Gerben discussed the potential outcome of the case with Reuters.
“If the company is no longer using them, X will face obstacles defending its ownership of the trademarks,” said Josh Gerben. “But, X can still try to block Operation Bluebird’s commercial use of the Twitter name even if the cancellation is successful.”
Gerben called Operation Bluebird’s challenge “an interesting test as to whether or not X will invest in protecting a brand that they no longer want to use.”
