The New York Times Quotes Josh Gerben Regarding Trump Media’s “TruthFi” Trademark

The company behind Donald Trump’s social media, Truth Social, filed a trademark application to protect “TruthFi” with the USPTO. The application indicates an intent to offer a crypto-currency payment service under the name.

The New York Times and trademark attorney Josh Gerben discussed what the filing might mean for the social media company.

Gerben believes that the filing is a way for Trump Media to reserve the TruthFi name in the event it moves forward with a crypto business. Companies have the ability to reserve a name for as long as a few years, but typically only file a trademark application if there is an intent to use the name.

“In my experience, most of the time if a client is going to file an application, there is something going on,” the trademark attorney said.
