The Florida Panthers are Miami, Florida’s professional ice hockey team. The Panthers play in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. The team began playing in the league in 1993 and made their first and only Stanley Cup Championship in 1996. Since 1996, the team has only qualified for the playoffs five times, but it has never again won a playoff round. More recently though, in 2015, the team did win its division.
In the Panther’s short history, it has held three primary logos. The first logo was used from 1993-2010 and the next from 2011-2016, and both depicted a panther leaping at the viewer. The most recent logo is a side profile of a Panther on a shield with the word “Florida” on the top. In addition to the panther logos, the franchise has registered a trademark for the “FLA” sunshine logo that was featured on the uniforms from 2009-2011.
While it appears that most of the Florida Panthers trademark portfolio is all trademarks that were in use, the team has kept these trademarks alive through vintage pieces or throwback memorabilia. In addition to these old logos, the team has protected the phrase “PANTHERLAND,” the nickname for their in-store stadium. The team has also protected “STREETCATS” for their youth hockey club, and this has been in continuous use since its filing in 1995.
