The 29th franchise of the National Football League is the Carolina Panthers. Their first football season started in 1995 in the NFC West division in Clemson, South Carolina in order to increase that division’s size. That being said, when the NFC South division was created in 2002, the team moved divisions and have remained in the NFC South division since.

The Panthers have also moved the location of their home field to their team-owned stadium, Bank of America Stadium, in uptown Charlotte, North Carolina. They do, however, hold their annual training camp in South Carolina at Wofford College in Spartanburg in order to represent both of the Carolinas. The team even filed a trademark for TWO STATES. ONE TEAM. in July of 2011.

In 1995, the Panthers word logo shape was designed to mimic the outline of both North Carolina and South Carolina. However, the next year the logo changed completely with a more stylized font and no outline. In 2012, the Panthers unveiled their new word logo and mascot logo. The word logo uses a modern, clean-lined font and the mascot logo is revamped to appear more “aggressive” with a pronounced brow and larger fangs. Surprisingly, the Carolina Panthers have not filed for any of their new, full logos. The latest logo filing the made was in October of 2011 for only for the panther face including the eyes, whiskers, nose, and fangs.

The team has also filed several trademarks for KEEP POUNDING, a mantra the team has used in honor of Sam Mills, former Panthers player and coach. He used the phrase in a playoff game speech to the team in January of 2004. The phrase has been connected to several items, including metal license plates, insulating beverage can sleeve holders, flags, pennants, and clothing. They also used the name for a charitable fundraiser for cancer research.
