The Atlanta Falcons are an American, professional football team based in Atlanta, Georgia. The Falcons have been competing in the National Football League’s NFC South division since 1965 when the NFL offered the owner a franchise to keep him from joining the AFL, a rival league. Founding owner, Rankin Smith, owned all the first trademarks for the team through his corporation, Five Smiths, Inc.
The Falcons first trademark filings were for Atlanta Falcons, Falcons, and their falcon logo starting in 1966. The Falcons logo changed in 2003 to add color, red and silver, and make the falcon a more prominent ‘F’ shape.
The Falcons have mostly filed for their name and logo variations, however in recent years they have filed for several IN BROTHERHOOD trademarks. According to their website, the Falcons are trying to get fans to join the “brotherhood” through social media and by using desktop and mobile wallpapers that the team has created.
