Marshmello is an electric music disc jockey and producer. His identity was a secret during his rise to fame, as he performed in a custom marshmallow-shaped helmet, but is now known as Christopher Comstock.
Christopher Comstock was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 19, 1992. He started releasing songs on SoundCloud and performing at festivals in 2015, as “Marshmello.” His first studio album was called Joytime and was released in January of 2016. The lead single from the album was “Keep It Mello,” which was a collaboration with Omar Linx. The album rose to 41 on the Independent Albums chart. He also released the single “Alone” in 2016, which hit 60th on the Billboard Hot 100.
In 2016, Marshmello performed at Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas and Miami Music Week. He released the single “Ritual” and embarked on the Ritual Tour, with dates in the U.S., India, South Korea, China, and Paraguay. He also launched Joytime Collective, which is his record label.
He released several singles that were collaborations with famous vocalists. These included “Chasing Colors” with Noah Cyrus, “Silence” with DJ Khalid, “Wolves” with Selena Gomez, “Spotlight” with Lil Peep, “Friends” with Anne-Marie, and “Everyday” with Logic. He also released the singles “Moving On” and “You & Me.”
Marshmello released his second studio album, Joytime II in 2018. It included the singles “Check This Out” and “Tell Me.” He also worked with Bastille on the single “Happier” that year, and it was number one on the Dance/Electronic Songs chart for 69 weeks. He also released the single “Bayen Habeit” with Amr Diab and “Project Dreams” with Roddy Ricch.
In 2019, he collaborated with Fortnight, to hold an in-game concert. This concert helped to promote the release of official gear and merchandise within the game and was considered a huge financial success.
That year, he also worked with Svdden Death on the single “Sell Out,” Chvrches on “Here with Me,” and SOB X RBE on the EP Roll the Dice, which contained three songs: “First Place,” “Don’t Save Me,” and “Roll the Dice.”
His third studio album was Joytime III, and it contained the lead single “Rescue Me.” Since its release, he has worked with Blackbear and Yungblud on “Tongue Tied,” Halsey on “Be Kind,” and Juice Wrld on “Come & Go” and “Hate the Other Side.”
Marshmello’s fourth studio album was titled Shockwave and released in the summer of 2021.
Christopher Comstock has worked with his management team to build an all-inclusive brand friendly to fans of all ages and backgrounds.
In 2015, Comstock established Marshmello Creative, LLC. The company filed a trademark application for the Marshmello logo, which is a stylized marshmallow character. They also filed a trademark application for the name “MARSHMELLO.” In both cases, the applications were t to cover use with CDs, digital music, and downloads, as well as other types of sound recordings. The applications also cover the use of the logo and “MARSHMELLO” for DJ services, performances, production, and services for other musicians.
Marshmello Creative, LLC also applied for a trademark registration for the Marshmello logo, for use on toys such as action figures, characters, and other types of figurines, in 2015. It also applied to use the logo on clothing items such as hooded sweat shirts, pants, socks, hats, and more. Many of these items are available on the Marshmello Music website.
In 2017, Marshmello Creative, LLC filed a trademark application for an outline version of the Marshmello logo, which is for use on toys such as action figures and rubber character dolls. It also filed a trademark application for the Marshmello logo for use on jewelry pins, like lapel pins and hat pins.
Around this time, the company also filed a trademark application for the design Comstock used on the Marshmello headgear which he wears while DJing. This applies to DJ services and other musical and entertainment services and appearances, both online and in person.
Marshmello Creative, LLC applied for a trademark for the name “MARSHMELLO” to be used on stickers, decals, and posters, and later on for clothing such as hooded sweat shirts, t-shirts, hats, and others.
In 2018, Marshmello Creative, LLC obtained a federal trademark registration for a logo, which is a stylized smile, and covers use on clothing such as leggings, jackets, footwear, hats, and more.
Marshmello’s fans are referred to as the Mellogang. Marshmello Creative, LLC obtained a federal trademark registration for “MELLOGANG” to be used in relation to the official Marshmello fan club in 2018. In 2019, they obtained a federal trademark registration for “MELLOGANG” to be used on clothing like hats, shirts, jackets, and more.
In 2021, Marshmello Creative, LLC applied for a trademark registration for the Marshmello logo to be used on drinks, including beer, bottled water, sports drinks, sodas, and other types of drinks that are both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. It also applied for a federal trademark registration for the Marshmello logo to be used on snacks like candy, brownies, muffins, and chocolates.
