Carrie Underwood is one of the top female country artists in history. She is well known for her enormous vocal range and prolific musical career. Aside from being a singer and songwriter, Underwood is an author, entrepreneur, actress and record producer.
Carrie Marie Underwood was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma in 1983. The youngest of three sisters, she grew up singing in church and at local events in her rural town. She was an active athlete and Honor Society member in high school and chose to attend Northeastern State University. She graduated in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in mass communications. She worked as a waitress, a vet tech and in a zoo before she pursued a career in the music industry.
In 2004, she won the fourth season of American Idol, which launched her to international fame. Her first official recording was the single “Inside Your Heaven,” which debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number one. It sold more than one million copies. A few months later, her debut album, Some Hearts was released. It too, was very successful reaching the top of charts and garnering records and awards. The second single off the album, “Jesus, Take the Wheel” would bring Underwood great crossover success and sky-rocket her popularity. She would embark on her first American tour in April of 2006, called simply “Carrie Underwood: Live in Concert.” Her tour was a huge success and she raked in awards as the top new female country vocalist on the scene.
Underwood’s second album was called Carnival Ride and was released in 2007. She took a more active approach in the writing of her second album, which in turn would bring her a lot of commercial success. The album produced multiple successful singles and also spawned another national tour, which was sold out.
She was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2008 and also was created in wax at Madame Tussauds New York. Her third successful studio album, Play On, was released in 2009. “Cowboy Casanova” was the landmark single from this album, which also won many awards and much critical acclaim. More than one million fans came out to see her perform on her nationwide tour promoting the album.
2012 saw the release of her fourth album, Blown Away, which spawned her seventeenth top ten hit, “Two Black Cadillacs.” This album produced a world tour and many, many special appearances. After releasing a compilation album, Greatest Hits: Decade #1, she released another studio album in 2015 called, Storyteller. 2017 was a tumultuous year for Underwood, who changed record labels, got a new figure at Madame Tussauds and had a devastating fall that broke her wrist and badly cut her face, causing her to cancel performances for several months. She released another number one studio album in late 2018, Cry Pretty.
In early 2020, Underwood became an author, releasing her debut book Find Your Path. She also released My Savior, a gospel album for Easter and her very first Christmas album at the end of that year, titled My Gift.
Underwood’s career has been wildly successful as she has sold tens of millions of records and has piled up a mountain of awards, including 7 Grammy Awards, 12 Billboard Music Awards, five CMT Artists of the Year awards, a nomination for a Golden Globe and many, many more.
Much of Underwood’s work outside of the entertainment industry has been product endorsements, such as her work with Almay, Hershey’s, Nintendo, Target and Sketchers. She is also prolific in her charity work as a well known Christian and animal activist. Underwood has been a vegetarian since childhood.
Underwood holds trademarks through her holding company Carrie-Okie Holdings, LLC. Those trademarks include the trademark of her name, first filed in 2005. It covers her entertainment services as well as other items like printed materials, key chains, picture frames, calendars, clothing and other goods. Her name is also trademarked for musical recordings and purses and handbags. She also has a pending trademark application for “Copper Rose” for the purpose of use on different types of bags, purses and wallets as well as pet clothing. There is also a pending application for Copper Rosse for use on varied clothing items.
Underwood was granted a trademark for Cry Pretty in 2020. It covers sound recordings, posters, stickers, travel bags, beverageware, clothing, fan club services and other similar items.
Carrie Underwood is expected to start her Las Vegas residency in December of 2021, called Reflection. It is currently scheduled to run through at least April of 2022. She has two sons, Jacob and Isaiah, with her husband of more than a decade, NHL player Mike Fisher. They reside at her three million dollar estate in Tennessee. Underwood continues to make music and pursue other creative efforts. She is believed to have a net worth of approximately $200 million.
