Peter Gene Hernandez, professionally known as Bruno Mars, is an American singer, musician, record producer, song writer and dancer. Bruno Mars is recognized all over the world for his stage performances, his musical hits and for performing a wide variety of musical styles, including R&B, pop, funk, reggae, soul, hip hop, and rock. Bruno Mars was born on October 8, 1985, in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was born and raised in a musical family. His mother Bernadette was a singer and his father Pete, was a Latin percussionist from Brooklyn. He got the nickname ‘Bruno’ since childhood. His family described him as independent and confident.
Being raised around entertainers, Mars always had an interest in music and owned musical instruments since an early age. According to Mars, music was not something he needed to be trained for, it was all already there. His family used to perform a Las Vegas-style revue that included doo-wop melodies, Motown hits, and celebrity impersonations. Mars started to perform with his family from an early age and also added Michael Jackson to his impersonation repertoire. He formed a band along with his friends at Roosevelt High School. Performing with his family since childhood made Mars confident and comfortable when he was at stage. It was quite normal for him. After completing high school, Mars decided to leave Hawaii and go to Los Angeles, California in search of a breakthrough in the music industry. Initially, he struggled to find an opportunity in the industry. Because he was so confident and had been performing since childhood, Mars got frustrated waiting for an opportunity.
His breakthrough moment came in when a friend introduced him to a songwriter Phillip Lawrence. The writer helped him compose a song, but he ended up selling it as he needed the money at that time. That’s when Mars decided that he would focus his energy into writing and producing songs. Mars started gaining popularity by writing for various famous artists, including Flo Rida’s smash hit “Right ‘Round,” and Travie McCoy’s “Billionaire.” He also co-wrote and produced Coca-Cola’s popular theme song “Wavin’ Flag” for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. After many years as a popular song-writer, Mars released his debut solo single in 2010 ‘Just the way you are’ from his debut studio album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans. The song was a huge hit and put him at the top of the Billboard singles chart. He released his second album ‘Unorthodox Jukebox’ in 2012. The album was an international success and topped the Billboard Hot 100 for six consecutive weeks.
After the success of his album, Mars went on a tour, The Moonshine Jungle Tour, in 2013. He initiated from North America and traveled all the way through Europe and Oceania and ended his trip in North America.
Mars received Grammy Awards nods for his debut effort, including for Album of the Year. Mars collaborated with Mark Ronson, a song writer/producer/musician and produced a no. 1 hit tune with their dance jam “Uptown Funk,” from Mark Ronson’s album Uptown Special, released in 2015. Mars got the opportunity to return to the Super Bowl stage in 2016, he performed at the half-time show with Coldplay and Beyoncé. Mars has been nominated 18 times for the prestigious Grammy Awards, winning multiple times, including: Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for “Just The Way You Are” in 2011. He has won many other awards and the hearts of millions of people with his stage performances and his music hits. His net worth as of 2021 is $174 million.
