Michael Badgley Trademarks

Michael Badgley is a placekicker in the National Football League. His nickname is “The Money Badger.”

Chris and Leanne Badgley raised their son, Michael, in Summit, New Jersey. He was very interested in sports as a child and played both hockey and lacrosse. His older brother played lacrosse at a Division 1 level.

An all-around athlete, Michael Badgley played hockey, lacrosse, and football in high school. He won two NJSIAA state lacrosse championships while attending Summit High School as well as an NJSIAA state hockey championship. In football, Badgley could play in any position. He kicked the school’s longest field goal ever, had the most points of any kicker (for a season and his career) in the school’s history, and recorded the school’s most consecutive PATs. When he played on special teams and he returned two kickoffs for a score, as well as four punt returns. He also played running back and recorded 11 touchdowns. When he was a defensive back, he recorded a pick-six. Badgley even played as quarterback for a few games, where he recorded 7 touchdown passes with 448 yards. He was a varsity captain and during his career, he recorded 3,198 total all-purpose yards. He helped to lead his team to a state championship in 2012. Badgley was named county player of the year and was listed in Maxwell Football Club’s Top 50 players in New Jersey.

After high school, he attended a post-graduate program at Fork Union Military Academy, where he played kicker and was the number one ranked kicker going into college. Badgley chose to play for the Hurricanes at the University of Miami, where he was the starting kicker for Miami for four years. He was named a team captain and was All-ACC in each season he played. In 2017, he won the Walter Kichefski Award and was named the Miami Special Teams Most Valuable Player. He set several records during his college years, including being Miami’s leading scorer and played in the 2018 Reese’s Senior Bowl.

He was invited to the NFL Combine in 2018, and he had a nice showing but was not drafted into the league a few months later.

Badgley was initially signed by the Indianapolis Colts as a free agent, but failed to beat out veteran, Adam Vinatieri and was cut before the start of the regular season. The Los Angeles Chargers signed him in October of that same year. He had an exceptional rookie season with the Chargers, recording the most field goals in a game and during a post-season run. He was named the top Special Teams Rookie by Pro Football Talk. He only appeared in eight games for the team during the following season due to an injury. In his third season with the Chargers, Badgley appeared in all 16 games and scored 108 points, making 39 extra-point attempts.

Badgley also played in one game for the Tennessee Titans, after being brought up from their practice squad. He was waived the day after that game when their regular kicker was brought back from the injured reserve.

In October of 2021, Badgley re-signed with the Colts as a member of their practice squad. He was promoted from the practice squad in late October, due to an injury to their starting kicker. He played the rest of the season with the team, finishing with 18 of 21 field goals and 39 of 39 extra points.

In 2019, Michael Badgley obtained a federal trademark registration for his nickname, “MONEY BADGER” for hoodies and various athletic apparel items.
