Kyler Murray is a former Heisman Trophy winner and professional quarterback in the National Football League. He plays for the Arizona Cardinals football team.
Kyler Cole Murray is from Bedford, Texas. He was born in 1997, to parents, Kevin Murray and Misun Henderson. His father played quarterback for Texas A&M University and was known for his prolific passing abilities. He now coaches high school football. Kyler’s uncle, Calvin Murray played major league baseball.
At Allen High School in Allen, Texas, Murray played both baseball and football and was a top prospect in each sport. While playing football, he was the starting quarterback for three years and each year he led the team to the state championship. During this time, he would record more than 14,500 total yards of offense and 183 touchdowns.
Murray is the only person ever, to play in both the Under Armour All-America Football Game and the Under Armour All-America Baseball Game. He was awarded Mr. Texas Football Player of the Year in 2014 and was named National Player of the Year by USA Today, Parade, Gatorade, and MaxPreps. He was also an Under Armour All-American, 6A Offensive Player of the Year, First Team All-USA Offensive Player of the Year, and named a PrepStar Top 150 Dream Teamer.
When he left high school, Murray was one of the most decorated players in the history of the state. He was widely considered to be a five-star recruit and the top dual-threat quarterback in the country. He was generally ranked in the top 15 overall players in the nation. Murray was recruited by Oklahoma, Oregon, and Texas, but chose to attend Texas A&M University in College Station.
As a freshman in 2015, Murray played in and started several games for the Aggies, while battling back and forth with Kyle Allen for the starting position. Murray’s performance was inconsistent, and he would ultimately lose the battle for quarterback. Murray decided to transfer to the University of Oklahoma, where he would have to sit out the 2016 season and wait to become eligible to play.
In 2017, Murray played as a backup for future Cleveland Browns starting quarterback, Baker Mayfield. Murray shined when he would play in games that year and was named the starter for the 2018 college football season.
During the 2018 season, Murray provided the Sooners with more than 5,000 yards of total offense and 50 touchdowns on route to a Big 12 Championship. The Oklahoma Sooners played in the National Championship Game and lost to the Alabama Crimson Tide. Murray was awarded the Heisman Trophy, AP College Football Player of the Year, and Big 12 Player of the Year. He was also named First-team All-Big 12, First-team All-American, the Davey O’Brien Award winner, and the Manning Award winner.
Murray was invited to the NFL Combine where he performed well. He was drafted first in the NFL draft and selected by the Arizona Cardinals. Just as in high school, Murray was a stand-out baseball player in college as well. During the MLB draft, the Oakland Athletics would also draft him, this time ninth overall. Murray would ultimately choose football over baseball.
In his rookie season, Murray threw for almost 4,000 yards and recorded 20 touchdowns, as well as running for more than 500 yards and four touchdowns. He was named AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and a Pro Bowl alternate. The following season, the Cardinals acquired star receiver, DeAndre Hopkins, giving Murray an opportunity for even higher offensive numbers. He was once again named to the Pro Bowl, although his team failed to make the playoffs. In 2021, Murray finally took his team into the postseason, although they did not make it to the Super Bowl. Murray remains the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals.
Kyler Murray established K1 Promotions, LLC. It filed a trademark application for “KYLER” for entertainment services such as speaking engagements and personal appearances. It also applied for a trademark for “KYLER” for apparel such as different styles of hats, tops, and bottoms. In 2020, K1 Promotions, LLC applied for a trademark for “KYLER MURRAY” for the same purposes.
Additionally, the company filed a trademark application for “1KM” for these purposes. “1” is Murray’s jersey number along with “KM” his initials. K1 Promotions, LLC also filed for a federal trademark registration for a logo that is a stylized version of “1KM” as well.
K1 Promotions also applied for a trademark for “HAIL MURRAY” for the same items. “Hail Murray” is a reference to Kyler Murray’s game-winning November 2020-pass to wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins in a game against the Buffalo Bills. The 43-yard pass was caught in the end zone and CBS play-by-play announcer, Ian Eagle, called the play “Murray Magic.” K1 Promotions, LLC also filed a trademark application for “MURRAY MAGIC” for these same purposes.
In 2020, K1 Promotions, LLC filed a trademark application for “K1” for coaching, classes, and instruction related to sports, specifically football and baseball as well as others.
