Joel Embiid is a professional basketball player. He has been selected as an All-Star four times.
Joel Hans Embiid born in 1994, in Yaoundé, Cameroon. Originally a volleyball player in his youth, he decided to play basketball when he was 15. He moved to the United States when he was 16 and devoted himself to basketball full time. As a senior in high school, he averaged 13 points, almost 10 rebounds, and two blocks per game and helped lead his team to a state championship.
Embiid attended the University of Kansas, where he played for one year. He recorded more than 11 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks in the 28 games he played in before he was sidelined with a stress fracture in his back. He was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and given Second-team All-Big 12, Big 12 All-Defensive Team, and Big 12 All-Newcomer Team honors. He bypassed his three additional years of collegiate eligibility to declare for the NBA draft and was taken third in the draft by the Philadelphia 76ers.
After being drafted by the 76ers, he missed the entire season because of a broken navicular bone in his foot. He faced a setback in his healing and was forced to undergo more surgeries, which would force him to miss the entire 2015-2016 season. Embiid played his first professional game in the 2016-2017 pre-season game against the Boston Celtics. He started the game and played for 13 minutes. During that time, he had six points, four rebounds, and two blocks.
Embiid’s regular-season debut would come less than a month later against the Oklahoma City Thunder. He started at center and played for 25 minutes, during which he scored 20 points, had seven rebounds, and two blocks. His first career double-double came two weeks later at the expense of the Orlando Magic. In December, he won Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month. Embiid was also part of the 2017 Rising Stars Challenge, the Taco Bell Skills Challenge, and was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team. He would miss the latter part of the season due to a knee injury.
During the 2017-2018 season, Embiid was named a starter for the 2018 NBA All-Star Game. That year he scored an average of 22. 9 points, 11 rebounds, and three assists per game. He started and played in 64 games the next season, averaging 27.5 points per game, with 13 rebounds and 4 assists. During the 2019-2020 season, he averaged 23 points per game. Embiid would average 28.5 points per game and 10 rebounds and two assists per game during the following season.
In 2016, Joel Embiid applied for a trademark for “THE PROCESS” to be used on apparel that includes sweatpants, shirts, shorts, hats, flip flops, and others. In 2018, he applied for a trademark for “THE PROCESS” for backpacks as well as athletic footwear, socks, and hoodies.
In 2018, he filed a trademark application for “TRUST THE PROCESS” for use on cell phone cases. He also applied for a federal trademark registration for “TRUST THE PROCESS” for use with books. That same year, he would also apply for a trademark for “TRUST THE PROCESS” for shoes, as well as a wide range of toys including playground balls, bobblehead action figures, snow globes, and many others. Additionally, he applied for a trademark for “TRUST THE PROCESS” for non-alcoholic beverages such as energy drinks, coffee drinks, fruit drinks, and more.
In 2019, Embiid filed a trademark application for “THE PROCESS” for use with metal key tags, novelty license plates, and the like. He also submitted a trademark application for the phrase to be used with downloadable video games, computer programs, and items related to these, as well as for publications such as basketball trading cards, books, and event programs.
Embiid also filed a trademark application for “THE PROCESS” for a variety of jewelry items and jewelry boxes, bags including duffle bags, travel bags, and athletic bags, and similar items. He applied for a federal trademark registration for “THE PROCESS” for use on a variety of clothing items, in addition to a vast array of toy items including golf toys, Christmas tree ornaments, windsocks, and more.
He also filed a trademark application for “THE PROCESS” for use in promoting basketball tournaments, camps, and events of other people, and promoting the awareness of the game of basketball. Embiid also applied for a federal trademark registration for the phrase for use with basketball camps and training services, organizing basketball tournaments, and other similar items.
In 2020, he filed a trademark application for “THE PROCESS” for use with cell phone cases, rubber bracelets, children’s books, and non-alcoholic beverages. “Trust The Process” is a 76ers battle cry and is a reference to the strategy of the franchise’s former general manager, Sam Hinkie. As a player for the 76ers, Joel Embiid gave himself the nickname, “The Process.”
