Devin Booker is a professional basketball player who plays shooting guard for the Phoenix Suns. He is the youngest player to score over sixty points in a single game and to have two consecutive 50 point games.
Devin Armani Booker is from Grand Rapids, Michigan and is the son of Melvin Booker, a former professional basketball player who played in both the United States and abroad. During high school, he moved to Moss Point, Mississippi to live with his father, where he attended Moss Point High School. He was considered a four-to-five-star recruit and he attended the University of Kentucky. He declared for the NBA Draft after one year at Kentucky and was drafted by the Phoenix Suns in 2015.
Booker debuted in the Suns’ season opener that year and played for 21 minutes, scoring 14 points. Later that year, he became the youngest player to ever participate in the NBA All-Star Weekend’s Three-Point Contest. He was voted NBA All Rookie First team and was fourth in the NBA Rookie of the Year voting. In the next season, he averaged more than 22 points per game, a nine-point improvement over the year before. During the 2017-2018 season, Devin had four consecutive games, where he scored more than 30 points, but then missed the final part of the season due to injury. The following season, he became the first player in team history to score 50 points in back-to-back games, but again his season ended early due to injury. Booker was named an All Star in both the 2019-2020 season and the 2020-2021 season, and was also a part of team USA’s gold medal winning basketball team at the Tokyo Olympics.
At the end of Booker’s first professional season, he played against Kobe Bryant, which he cites as a very special game to him. When they spoke after the game, Bryant signed a pair of game-worn shoes for the rookie, adding the words, “Be Legendary.”
Booker established VMDD, LLC, which applied for a trademark for the phrase “BE LEGENDARY” to promote basketball camps, basketball competitions, public interest in basketball in December of 2020. The company also applied for a trademark for the phrase “BE LEGENDARY” for use in charitable fundraising services and organizing charitable fundraising events, as well as production of films about basketball, podcasts about sports, and providing information about basketball and sports. It also filed a trademark application for the phrase, to be used on clothing items such as socks and shoes, jackets, and swim wear.
Booker’s logo is a design that shows the number five and the image of a basketball, with the words “Starting Five” listed multiple times around the 5. This logo is a reference to the five starting players on a basketball team. VMDD, LLC applied for a trademark for this logo for use as jewelry like tie pins, watches and their parts, and precious metal trophies. It also applied for a trademark for the logo to cover different types of leather bags, as well as different kinds of toys like basketballs, action figures, and bobble heads. In 2020, it applied for a trademark for the logo to be used on beverage items, some of these include bottled water, coffee, fruit smoothies, and flavored water, in addition to covering wine and spirits.
VMDD, LLC also applied for a trademark for the “Starting Five” logo to be used for basketball camps, promoting public interest in basketball, as well as charitable services, fundraising activities, and financial sponsorships of events and charities. It also filed an application for the logo to be used for entertainment and education purposes, podcasts, and recreational services related to basketball. Additionally, it applied for a federal trademark registration for the logo to cover use on clothing items such as shoes, jerseys, and headgear.
In 2020, Booker claimed the nickname “Book” in a tweet. VMDD, LLC then applied for a trademark for a logo, which is a depiction of an open book, for educational and entertainment purposes, film production and providing podcasts, all in relation to basketball, as well as charitable fundraising services, sponsorship of sporting competitions and events, and providing opportunities for underprivileged children. It applied for a trademark registration for the book logo to be used to promote basketball camps and tournaments, and charities for others.
Booker’s company, VMDD, LLC applied for a trademark for the book logo to cover use on different types of nonalcoholic beverages as well as wine and spirits. It also filed a trademark application for the logo to be used with toys, clothing items, diverse styles of leather bags, and jewelry. It also applied for federal trademark registrations for the phrase “BOOK PROJECTS” for the same goods and services. In addition, the company filed a trademark application for “DBOOK,” a variation of his nickname, for use with educational and entertainment services related to basketball, charitable services, basketball camps and tournaments, clothing items, and leather bags.
