Deontay Wilder is a professional boxer from Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He is a former Olympian, former United States Champion, and WBC heavyweight champion from 2015 until 2020.

Deontay Leshun Wilder began boxing at twenty years of age in Northport, Alabama at Skyy Boxing Gym. He won the U.S. championships and the National Golden Gloves in 2007. Wilder participated in the 2008 Olympic games, advancing to the semi-final, and winning a bronze medal, which spawned his nickname, “The Bronze Bomber.” His amateur record is 30 wins and five losses.

Wilder won the WBC heavyweight title by defeating Bermane Stiverne by unanimous decision in a twelve-round bout held in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 17, 2015. He would have ten successful defenses of the title. He defeated Eric Molina in Birmingham, Alabama on May 8, 2015, Johann Duhaupas, also in Alabama, in 2015, and Artur Szpilka in Brooklyn, New York in December of 2015. He also defeated Chris Arreola in eight rounds on July 16, 2016, but sustained injuries that would require surgery and keep him out of the ring for the rest of the year.

On February 25, 2017, Deontay returned to the ring to knock out Gerald Washington in five rounds, in Birmingham, Alabama. He also defeated Bermane Stiverne for a second time, with a first-round knockout on November 4, 2017, in Brooklyn, New York. He defeated Luis Ortiz on March 3, 2018, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, when their match was stopped in the tenth round. On December 1, 2018, he fought Tyson Fury to a twelve-round split decision draw, also at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, and retained his WBC heavyweight title. This fight grossed more than $30 million. Wilder knocked out Dominic Breazeale in 43 seconds on May 18, 2019, and Luis Ortiz in the seventh round on November 23, 2019.

In a match billed as, “Unfinished Business,” he fought Tyson Fury on February 22, 2020. The match took place in Paradise, Nevada at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Fury dethroned Wilder, defeating him in the seventh-round by TKO. The fight was a huge commercial success, raking in over one million pay-per-view buys.

On October 9, 2021, in a match billed as “Once and For All,” Wilder again faced Fury. The fight also took place in Paradise, Nevada, this time at the T-Mobile Arena. Fury knocked Wilder out in the eleventh round of a match, which was considered an instant classic.

Wilder still resides in his hometown of Tuscaloosa, Alabama with his wife, and is a father to eight children. His net worth is generally estimated to be around $40 million.
